It’s that time of year again when thoughts begin to turn to the Toonies. We’re concentrating our 2012 efforts on the Golden Toonie itself, dispensing with the additional category awards and going for the glory. The Toonie Awards were started in 1991 to honor the achievements of cartoonists who have ties to the Pacific Northwest. Winners are selected from the hundreds of email and paper ballots submitted by Cartoonists Northwest members.
Toonies are awarded for 2012 accomplishments in categories such as publishing, comics, animation and cartooning to deserving nominees who meet Pacific Northwest qualifications.
The deadline for the 2013 Toonie Award nominations is Friday, March 1. In 2012, T Lewis and Shannon Wheeler tied for the Golden Toonie. Submit your nominations for this year’s Toonie Awards below.
Has another Toonies already come and gone? The longer I’m in Cartoonists Northwest, the more I begin to associate the character of a year with what happened at the Toonie™ Awards. Saturday night’s event ran smoothly and entertained many, offering all of the familiar traditions alongside some welcome surprises.
The Amazing Martin Brothers upped the ante this year with contribution’s from not one, but two additional members and a longer playlist. Members swept the Art Auction table and nearly every item was gone by the end of the evening. Participation in the Clay Contest was high; perpetual Clay Contest winner Mark Monlux took the prize again, and received a PVP collection for his efforts signed by our guest speaker, . (more…)
