The C.L.A.W. is a clandestine network of professional Northwest cartoonists founded and ultimately concentrated in the South Puget Sound region. Our mission is to gather talented Washington State cartoonists of great skill and humongous egos in frequently secluded gatherings during which the secrets and mystic arts of their sublime craft are practiced. Behind closed doors and away from prying eyes, the most pointless and silly of rituals will be freely indulged. And we give a scholarship to an art student every year!

Freelance Fandango meets every Monday, barring Federal Holidays, at 11 a.m. at the Red Elm Cafe on Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Tacoma, WA It runs for two hours until 1 p.m.

GUILD ADVOCACY

Created to further your professional and artistic interests, the Guild is your community and your advocate to ensure fair pay, appropriate working conditions and ownership of your work.

For 50 years, the Guild has advocated on behalf of our members: graphic designers, illustrators, animators, cartoonists, comic artists, web designers, and production artists. We educate graphic artists on best practices through webinars, Guild news, resource articles, and meetups. The Graphic Artists Guild Handbook: Pricing & Ethical Guidelines has raised industry standards, and provides graphic artists and their clients guidance on best practices and pricing standards. We also advocate for graphic artists on Capitol Hill on a wide range of legislative initiatives, as well as internationally through active membership in global umbrella organizations.

The Claw

In 2019 several members of CLAW began doing posters for the Grand Cinema’s Weird Elephant Showings in Tacoma. When the Grand Cinema, like many businesses, was ordered closed for several months the artists involved were unhappy.

They have started to smile again as the Grand Cinema has reopened and has invited the Weird Cabal to once again create poster art. Not all the artists are participating, but many are. Here are just a few movies that will be shown in October: Total Recall 2nd, Shaun of the Dead 15th, American Werewolf in London 16th, The Thing 22nd, Army of Darkness 23rd, Halloween (1978) 28/29, Total Recall art by James Stowe.

Prints are currently only available at the venue at the time of a showing or direct from the individual artists.
